Established in March 2005, we have since been on the move trying to elevate HIV awareness among youth within communities of color. Statistics from the CDC (Centers for Disease Control) have clearly shown a rise in infection within African American and Latino populations -especially amongst African American women- and our goal is to hit those areas with HIV testing opportunities, and educational workshops.
Our mission is to provide information, statistics and facts about HIV/AIDS that will leave individuals feeling empowered and educated. With a passion for young people, our desire is to be given the opportunity to dialogue with them in a manner where they will feel comfortable and safe discussing the topics of sex, sexuality, HIV/AIDS and the various other STD’s that are currently on the rise within their generation.
With an emphasis on abstinence, we have cultivated our presentation to impart into the listener the understanding that improper sexual behaviors can have long lasting effects on both the physical and mental aspects of a person’s life. We encourage the listener to put themselves first and not succumb peer-pressures surrounding certain sexual situations. We are open to persons from all walks of life, regardless of race, gender, religous background, or sexual orienation.
The Know U 1st team have personal experiences dealing with HIV/AIDS, and are able to provide both clinical and practical information surrounding the virus. We aspire to reach the young people of today, but we need your help to accomplish this task. The book of Hosea states, “My people perish for a lack of knowledge” and our desire is to eradicate the ignorance and stigma that currently surrounds this epidemic.
